german resources from a german girl who also took german in school in america! feel free to drop me a question on retrospring if you ever have any german questions.

Radio BR24 (originally B5 aktuell) - this radio station is bavarian. It's one of the main radio stations i listen to, and the announcers speak in standard german dialect , even if they have a bavarian accent.

SWR3

DasDing - mostly pop music, with some alternative music, by young people and for young people. even if you don't listen to the station, their website is a great way to check out current youth trends and pop culture news in German.

Reading (News)

Taz.de - one of the most popular newspapers out there in Germany. Considered alternative-left.

Zeit Online - The online version of Die Zeit, the most widely read German weekly newspaper. It's known for long, detailed articles--Die Zeit also publishes essays, lectures, and dossiers. Centre-left.

Der Spiegel - another very popular news website! It has both English translated articles and German ones.

Stern - human interest and politics, but also plenty of lighter content from sports to cooking.

Reading (Other things)

Jetzt - a German youth magazine. a bit like a socially conscious Teen Vogue? Especially as of late they've devoted a lot to very good articles on news and current events, but there's always the memorable "Hetero-Männer, steht ihr wirklich entweder auf Brüste oder Po?" (Straight men, do you prefer boobs or butt?) and the eponymous WhatsApp column (which I can't quite figure out but seems to be fake texts between imaginary characters for no discernable reason) if you want to numb your braincells.

Brigitte - technically a women's magazine, but in general covers topics from beauty, parenting, health, cooking, shopping, etc. this one has been around since 1886(!).

Watching

Tagesschau -- Probably the most watched TV news programme in Germany. It's broadcast live on tagesschau24, or replays are available on YouTube.
