- my late grandmother read every agatha christie book, and the christmas before she passed i bought her a book of previously unpublished notebook excerpts that had just come out. i'm very glad i was able to give her some "new" agatha to read in the last few months of her life

- tomboy survival guide, ivan coyote, for my cousin
- apparently as a toddler i insisted on picking out my grandparents' anniversary gift myself. i chose two small framed pictures of "bathroom mice," which is to say drawings of cartoon mice floating on bars of soap and skiing down shaving cream mountains. my mom was like 'wow, my dad will hate this' but just let me buy them. and my grandfather was obsessed with them, to the point where he was like "we need more mice drawings" and sent my mom out to scour the shops for more. she came back reporting there were only similar drawings of hippos and he was like "don't be ridiculous"
- we've had them ever since and i had forgotten this happened (obviously, i was like three). i just looked up the artist and i think he only died two weeks ago. i wish i had thought to look him up at any other time in the last three decades, i would love to have written him to say thank you for gracing my bathroom walls my whole life, and for making my grandfather so happy
- little goat that screams when you squeeze it, for jack
- when jack was little, i got him a little toy cell phone shaped like an alligator and when you 'dialed' it made chomping sounds. genuinely wish i could have bought these in bulk
- the raccoons hot chocolate for mom
- a tunnel for my cat
- gentle chaos oracle deck for mom
