In an effort to pay more note of things that I enjoy, things that make me happy, so on and so forth -- here's random lines from fanfiction I find that make me laugh out loud.

  • Steve sits down, and stares at his tea like he suspects it of having Nazi sympathies.
  • The librarian says, "Am I going to have to ask you to leave?"
    • "No ma'am," Lily says. "I'm sorry about my brother. He has impulse control problems from being a crack baby."
  • [...] They sell all kinds of Bucky Barnes stuff on the internet, some with his real picture and some with his picture from the cartoon where he's a child soldier in some kind of really kinky situation with Captain America, like Steve is always out to spank him and shit.

Confession: I'm not actually a fan of Batman. I know, that's a nerd sin -- but there are still, from time to time, comics I stumble upon where he plays a center role that I really love and might one day want to go back to read. As I come across them, I'll add them here.

(As I read through the comics. Currently vol 1, #171.)

As of right now, where I am, he's had three primary love interests. There were girls he flirted with here and there in the early issues, but for the purposes of simplicity, I'm only including characters he's with for an extended period of time, and / or ones that hold some sort of significance to the overall plot or characterization.

  • Crystal - so far the best. I didn't actually enjoy them being together, but their relationship was relatively healthy until she effectively cheated on him with Quicksilver, who she later married. Not sure if that's going to be retconned later or not.
  • Medusa - was thankfully only a major crush until he met Crystal. It was very "no" for me.
  • Dorrie Evans - apparently his high school sweetheart, but I can't even remember her so she mus...

The Fantastic Four are enjoying a boost of popularity and awareness thanks to Marvel Rivals, while Namor has been suffering from, um . . . the opposite of popularity. There have been many writers over the years, and many retcons, but this will be a list of my favorite issues that feature them.

  • In the earlier part of the 1970s, some things went down that caused Sue and Reed to separate, with Sue taking Franklin, their son. I can't remember the exact issues. Sue turns to Namor for companionship (not like that) and help, and in response, he fakes attacking the surface world with the hopes that in doing so she and Reed will reunite -- and they do.
  • Fantastic Four V1 #195, published June 1978.

One of my biggest fears has always been finding myself trapped in a toxic relationship like my mother was, which causes me to zero in on red flags. I'm grateful for the awareness, but one of my issues is an inclination towards avoidance, and sometimes I wonder how much of these are truly "red flags," and how much of these are things that I'm seeing as a subconscious excuse to run for the hills.

In any case, I am talking to a person right now who is sending off alarm bells. My goal is to remain open, but continue to lay down firm boundaries and observe what happens.

  • moves too fast - in less than two weeks of flirting back and forth, they were already calling themselves my girlfriend, saying that they love me, etc. Doesn't seem to respond either way when I point out that we're not official yet. At the very least, she doesn...
