rules: at least 2-3 listens per album, with a general description of what i liked and disliked about. each album's memorable tracks will be listed in order of which songs i liked the most. ✺ = song that i know i will listen to on the regular
this is my first time listening to a twice album, as I am not too familiar with anything from them besides their singles. The album carried a lot of elements from different genres, which made the sound very diverse. However, doing this, I feel as if they could've brought more to the table when using these many different genres. They have a very mature sound, but a lot of songs seemed to blend as one song. There wasn't much personality in them and none besides a few stuck out for me personally. For me, the album started to get a lot better when 'believing' played. It just seemed too generic pop for me with no personality :(. I really enjoyed the instrumental and vocals for 'depend on you', the city pop aspect of 'say something', and of course the lovely 'i can't stop me'.
I've been a blackpink fan since they debuted, yet I've always been so hard on them. If someone asks me if I like blackpink, sometimes i say yes, sometimes I say no. It took me a while to figure out why I was so secretive about liking them and I figured it out! I love tons of their songs, but all the ones I tend to drift away from, all sound so much a like. I love each member so much, their personalities and bond -- however each song has the same structure, the same type of beat, and it seems as if nothing is proving their talent. It's YG's fault none the less, and I just wish the best for these girls. From now on, i'm going to say i'm a fan -- however, their songs are very generic, and it brings itself to my point with this album. I've given this album many listens and I actually like more songs now that I've listened it to more than once. But "Love sick girls" is just not for me personally. The drops from "crazy for me" and 'love to hate me" were highly disappointing, making them tracks with high potential, but wasn't able to get there. "ice cream" had to grow on me because I didn't like it when it first released, but I can get through the track, however, it isn't a track I would willingly click on. Pretty savage is a solid track to me, and it had blackpink's style from their first EP.
