❝ life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated ❞ ─ confucious.

experiment, explore and execute to find out what work best for you. quick recap of what you've learned & can implement right away :

principles.

_ 01. simplify;

  • ⇢ it's better to live with less, but only the best.

_ 02. experiences > possessions;

  • ⇢ always choose simplicity over stuff. experiences over possessions.

_ 03. subtract before you add;

❝ the learning of life is about what to avoid ❞ ─ nasim taleb.

starting the process.

  • ⇢ start with yourself;
  • ⇢ don't try to convince others. let yourself be a living example of a change toward a happy, uncluttered life;
  • ⇢ start small, start now;
  • ⇢ don’t expect to do everything at once or make massive progress in a single day. start out by taking small steps in the right direction and the results will build;

▹ one item at a time!

even if you declutter just one item a day, usually, you'll find yourself decluttering even more.

best methods & techniques.

_ 01. konmari method.

  • ⇢ the major difference of konmari method is that instead of deciding what to get rid of, you choose what to keep and declutter the rest.
  • ⇢ for example, you can collect all your items from specific category together in a big pile.
    • ex. if it’s clothing, you would need to hold them, wear and feel them to have a clear sense of how it makes you feel.

▹ while doing this, ask yourself: does this spark joy in my heart?

_ 02. minimalist game.

  • ⇢ beginning on the first day of a month, the number of things you declutter corresponds to the day of the month.
  • ⇢ one item on the first day, two items on the second day, three on the third, and so on.
  • ⇢ if you won’t skip any day & follow all way long, you’ll declutter almost 500 items by the end of 31-day month.
  • ⇢ this game works best when you challenge someone, let it be a friend or family member. see, who can stay longer in the game.

❝ one can furnish a room very luxuriously by taking out furniture rather than putting it in ❞ ─ francis jourdain.

_ 03. four box method.

  • ⇢ the process is simple & straightforward.
  • ⇢ you set up four boxes in a room and label them: keep, donate, throw away, and undecided. you could even make the undecided box the sell box where you’ll put the items you want to sell.
  • ⇢ as you start decluttering, you’ll place your items into one of the four boxes, depending on your choice. plus, you’ll have a flexibility in a case if you’re not sure what to do with item, you can simply put in into undecided box.

_ 04. packing party.

  • ⇢ you pack everything you own into boxes as if you were moving. you may ask for your friend or family member’s help. than, you only take out the items you actually use.
  • ⇢ after 2-3 month you’ll see that you have a lot of stuff that you don’t use. sell, donate or give away this items.
  • ⇢ be aware, that you have a seasonal clothes that you don’t want to throw away. in the case with seasonal clothes or items, use '90/90 Rule'.

▹ pick something. anything. have you used that item in the last 90 days? if you haven’t, will you use it in the next 90? if not, then it’s okay to let go.

❝ have nothing in your homes that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful ❞ ─ william morris.

_ 05. closet hanger method.

  • ⇢ to start with, ensure that all hangers in your closet are facing the same direction.
  • ⇢ as you wear items of clothing each day, you place them back in the closet with the hanger facing the opposite direction.
  • ⇢ that way you’ll notice what you wore and what you can declutter.

keeping the momentum.

  • ⇢ give away one item a week.
  • ⇢ just go through your things, find something you will not use and give it to the person who may benefit from it.
  • ⇢ everything has its home. you put everything in its logical place.
  • ⇢ keep a "maybe" box. you store the stuff in it for now & then come back after some period of time. if you haven’t thought about it once or use anything in it, give it away, sell it or throw it out.
