• Tabby - the most common pattern for cats' coats; there are four main varieties of tabby patterning, including mackerel, blotched, spotted, and ticked.
  • Solid - there's only one colour present on the cat’s body (i. e. black or white; orange cats are always tabby).
  • Bicolour - a fur colouration of white and one other colour; frequently observed colour combinations are red/white and white/brown. Mostly white cat is called colourpoint, black cat with white marks is a tuxedo.
  • Tortoiseshell - a mixture of black and red (orange) fur; they can also be found with the ‘diluted’ colours cream and blue. Most of them are female.
  • Tricolour (calico) - black and red (or cream and blue) but speckle in some white across their coats. Most of them are female.
  • Colourpoint - dark colouration on the face, paws, and tail, contrasting the rest of the cat's lighter-coloured body.
