  • Never allowed anyone to see him while he was naked or bathing
  • Refused to use colognes or scents of any sort on his body
  • Would never take off his coat in public, no matter how warm the weather may have been
  • When Nazi press secretary Dr. Sedgwick tried to convince Hitler to get rid of his mustache, Hitler replied, "Do not worry about my mustache. If it is not the fashion now, it will be later because I wear it!" (1923)
  • While dining with others, Hitler would allow the conversation to linger on general topics, but would eventually and inevitably begin one of his many speeches
    • His speeches were flawless from start to finish because he rehearsed them at any time he had a spare moment
    • His favourite topics included: "when I was a soldier", "when I was in Vienna", "when I was in prison", and "when I was a leader in the early days of the party"
    • If Hitler began speaking about Wagner and the opera, no one dared to interrupt him. He would often sermonize on this topic until his audience fell asleep
  • Had no interest in sports or games of any kind, and never exercised, except for an occasional walk
  • Paced frequently inside rooms, always to the same tune he whistled to himself and always diagonally from corner to corner
  • Had impeccable handwriting. Famous psychologist Carl Jung remarked, "Behind this handwriting I recognize the typical characteristics of a man with essentially feminine instinct." (1937)
  • Loved the circus - took pleasure in the idea that underpaid performers risked their lives to please him
    • Went to the circus on several occasions in 1933 and sent extremely expensive flowers and chocolates to the female performers
    • Remembered the names of the performers and worried about them and their families in the event of an accident
    • Wasn't interested in wild animal acts, unless there was a woman of danger
  • Would watch a movie nearly every night in his private theatre, mainly foreign films that were banned from the German public
    • Loved comedies, including Jewish comedies
    • Hitler's staff secretly made films for him of torture and execution of political prisoners, which he enjoyed watching
    • His executive assistants also secured pornographic films and pictures for him
  • Enjoyed gypsy music, Wagner's operas, and especially American college football marches and alma maters
    • Liked a few Jewish singers, however would always remark that it was too bad he/she wasn't Aryan
  • Loved newsreels - especially when he was in them
  • Used American college style football-style music during his speeches to excite the masses
    • His rallying cry ("Sieg Heil!") was modeled after cheering techniques used by American cheerleaders
  • Had an incredible sweet tooth
    • Regularly ate up to two pounds of chocolate a day, in addition to pastries and hot chocolate with copious amounts of whipped cream
    • Generally took his tea with seven teaspoons of sugar
    • Ernst Hanfstaengl once witnessed Hitler adding spoonfuls of sugar to a glass of red wine
