i love to eat...but sometimes i do in peculiar ways

  • burritos: i eat them in three ways, depending how hungry i am. i either dig into the burrito in the middle with a fork and eat the insides (moderately hungry), cut it in half and eat the insides, and also eat the tortilla as i go along (semi-hungry), or bite into an end and scoop out the insides while eating the tortilla (most hungry). i am the only person i know who eats a burrito with a spoon.
  • kiwis: i cut them in half, and scoop it out with a spoon. see a trend?
  • i have to eat the fortune cookie at the end. no exceptions. also, i crack it open in half at the ends with my teeth, read the fortune, and then eat it.
  • pizza: i hold the crush with a napkin and the other end nearest my mouth with another napkin. which leads me to...
  • i really hate to get my fingers dirty when i eat, so i will use napkins to shield my digits. however - when the call arises to dig into finger foods (chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, sushi, anything that requires me to dip something in a dip), i'm all for it? it's like the bi-polar OCD of food.
  • it really bothers me if i don't finish a salad before a main course. i will sit there and eat it before my main dish is consumed.
  • i'm not the pickiest of eaters (no allergies, preferences, or odd requests), but my main thing is that i cannot ever have raw onions. they gross me out. however, cooked onions, purple unions, and green onions are acceptable.
  • i'm really into sharing, but if you're being a hog, i will call you out on it. my mom is really into sharing, especially food (she absolutely hates people who go hungry and will cook for them/buy them food in a second), so i'm a lot like that too.
  • i actually don't really like chocolate. i appreciate it and have it on occasion, but it's not my favorite. a lot of women and some guys are almost appalled when i tell them i'm not a huge fan of chocolate. i'd much rather have something with strawberries in it (my favorite fruit of all time) or something fruit-flavored. or just fruit!
  • strawberries are at the top of my list. ice cream, candies, raw, alone, with cool whip, in/on a pie or a cake, on the side - i am a huge fan of strawberries and will love someone forever if they buy me anything related to them. thus, i used to be quite mean to blackberry, raspberry, huckleberry, blueberry, and all the other berries because i thought they were subordinate. this was especially true in beauty products - i would be that picky and not use raspberry shampoo or lotion because it wasn't strawberry. i've gotten better though, and now am an equal-opportunist for all berries.
  • i don't really "hate" any foods or will turn down new ones; i'm always more than willing to try something new. i'm hoping this penchant against white onions goes away, since i like all his cousins.
  • making coffee the jenz way (out at a shop): trying to pick some kind of coffee that has a sweet tinge to it (i.e. hazelnut); leave about a half inch at top for half & half; add a spoonful of brown sugar as a sweetner; add a splash of cinnamon for god knows why; then stir.
  • making coffee the jenz way (at home): definitely only drink something with a sweet tinge (see above); insist on half & half. no sugar, no milk. if half & half is not available (which also must be in a sweet tinge flavor, like vanilla bean), then coffee plan is aborted. no joke.
  • candy: i don't like candy too much, but two of my absolute favorites are starbursts and M&Ms (preferably with peanuts). the former finds me eating the gross ones first (lemon, orange) so i can enjoy the cherry and beloved strawberry at the end, to savor (this is gross, i know). also, when i eat candies that are little and can be popped into your mouth in a handful, it has to be in even numbers (usually two at a time). if i have three left, i will eat the one odd one and then eat the two to have an even experience to the end.
  • i love dipping sauces and foods, all kinds.
  • when i eat cereal, and i finish the cereal and there is milk leftover, i will not drink it - i will instead keep pouring cereal in and using it as my cereal milk until it's all gone. so much cereal, for sure.
  • i find great satisfaction in peeling a peel entirely off on a fruit in one fell swoop. i can't even tell you.
  • what the hell, right?
