The books, short stories, articles, and blog posts of the year. For books, I post reviews on LibraryThing. My Goodreads still exists but it's abandoned. For blogs, I tend to use Inoreader RSS Reader to read new posts and Raindrop for creating a postroll. ┋ key

✦⸻ reading

  • novella ⠀・⠀ A Dead Djinn in Cairo by P. Djèlí Clark
  • nonfict ⠀・⠀ From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty

✦⸻ concluded

List goes in reverse order; the first is the most recent read.

  • novel ⠀・⠀ Cackle by Rachel Harrison: It's alright. It should’ve been a novella though, but I guess those don’t sell as well as novels so here we are.
  • novel ⠀・⠀ The Wrath & The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh: flop, which is sad. It had everything to be great... but a roster of unlikeable characters doomed it.
  • novella ⠀・⠀ The Summer War by Naomi Novik: Naomi Novik can do no wrong. What an amazing story. I loved the setting, wish we had more king & knight scenes though.
  • fanfic ⠀⠀・⠀ I've been having dreams by burnbrightly: Dara/Nahri smut. You're welcome.
  • fanfic ⠀⠀・⠀ To Be Near You by SparrowPixie: peak Dara/Nahri fanfic. Go read it. Go go go.
  • fanfic ⠀⠀・⠀ Beast of Burden by SparrowPixie: my heart couldn't take it, guys. I had to resort to fanfic to fix my bleeding Daevabad wound. Don't judge me.
  • novel ⠀⠀・⠀ We Hunt the Light by Hafsah Faizal: This one I couldn't stomach, guys. Read up to 40% but narrative inconsistencies and lackluster characters were just too much for me. I don't think YA is for me.
  • short ⠀⠀・⠀⠀ River of Silver (Daevabad Trilogy 4) by Shannon Chakraborty: short story collection of a slice-of-life type of story for the Daevabad trilogy. I loved seeing Darayavahoush again... in what should have been the prologue to a new book trilogy, BUT I GUESS NOT.
