- trains can only run on a certain route. each train is designated a colour which that route appears in on the map. White routes have no train allocated to them and can be purchased. Similarly, on the Jobs list, the jobs going to certain cities will appear in different colours depending on which route they are on. Select the colour that corresponds to your train's route.
- routes can be changed simply by sending the train along that line. There is a fee for this in coins.
- routes can be as long as you like, but it's best to stick to max 5 cities-long chain at first. It's more fuel-efficient. More advanced trains that are faster and have better fuel efficiency are more suited to longer routes.
- in the Trains menu:
- check the status and capacity of your train.
- change the route colour or name.
- swap the engine for another one.
- add an extra engine or fuel tank.
- shut down the train and put it into storage.
- once you have built an engine, to create a new train, choose a city and build a new railroad on it, by selecting 'New RR'.
- each new RR (i.e. each additional train) costs an increasing number of coins. Table here
- to expand: go to the map and tap on cities to buy them. Then tap on a route to buy it (using coins). More cities will appear as you expand.
- in the Craft area:
- open crates; it costs 10 bux each.
- see parts you have collected.
- use parts to create either an engine or a fuel tank. (no coins or bux are required, only parts).
- see stats for different classes of train.
- sell parts for coins.
- when you have the choice, use parts to build an engine rather than a fuel tank. then you have the choice to build a new train, or make an existing train (advanced only though, not basic) stronger and therefore pull more carriages. Check the 'max engines' rating.
- Fuel tanks can be added to existing trains to increase their fuel capacity, but can't be used to make new trains.
- Trains will need to be repaired at random intervals. A part can be used to repair it, or coins if preferred (the amount is random) or if there are no parts in your collection.
- The train can still be run while broken, however it will run at 1/4 speed.
- start by building up multiple train lines to a few large cities. Use them as hubs for storing cargo. This will also ensure that there aren't a lot of jobs popping up for smaller cities that are less convenient to transport.
- the important thing is to build up an efficient, connected network. Make sure that every line is connected to at least one other line, and it will enable long-distance cargo to be transferred, even if it takes several steps.
- choose runs that earn bux as often as possible, as bux are needed to do essential things like open crates and refuel planes.
- bux are used for:
- opening crates (10)
- expanding stockyards
- refueling planes instantly
- coins are used for:
- repairing planes (if no parts are available)
- buying new cities and train lines
- jobs that show no payment at all will actually be paid in crates. always choose these. try to collect crates wherever possible.
- stations that have an exclamation point next to them mean that a special item is available for purchase at that station.
- different trains have different fuel capacity, some are better for longer runs than others.
- send trains on the shortest runs with the most amount of carriages possible. the longer the run, the more fuel you will use and the longer it will take, meaning less profit. Also, the sooner the trip is over, the more often you're likely to come across better jobs offering bux and crates. Hop from city to city along the line.
- the exchange rate varies when converting bux into coins, so be aware of this (it's random and changes daily).
- be mindful before converting bux into coins, as they cannot be converted back, and bux are needed for many essential functions.
- opening up a new continent costs a lot of coins, so make sure to save them up. it's best to develop the first continent fully before opening up a new one.
- events: go to the Events menu. Usually 75 jobs are required, within a 24-hour time period. be aware of refuelling delays before deciding to take on an event, or you may end up spending bux to fulfill it.
- at first, each station can store up to 5 carriages, but this can be upgraded. upgrading stockyard capacity is worthwhile, as it allows you to store carriages at a station for a different train to pick up and take on another route. (similar to layovers in PP??). Upgrade larger cities which have multiple lines running through them.
- if there's a lucrative delivery option available, but it’s not part of the current train’s route, you can buy the route for a few hundred coins. Normally, this isn’t really worth it, but if you have the option of doing a delivery that fulfills event requirements, pays you Bux or pays you in crates, then it’s worth it.
- "Shutdown Line" is similar to hangaring plane in PP. It allows you to store trains and transfer them to another continent.
- if you want to send parts to someone, check what their Friend Code is in the Options menu.
