  • layer a summer dress with a simple white cotton smock or apron.
    • try co-ordinating an entirely white outfit.
  • wear your hair up in milkmaid braids.
  • replace your shoelaces with ribbons. Give them big floppy bows.

  • drink iced tea in tropical flavours. Use a cute tea strainer or tray in a fruity or summery theme.
  • experiment with different summer juices and herbs to make a cooling drink. e.g. canteloupe and basil.
  • try different sun hats to protect your skin from the sun.
  • try making your own jam to preserve summer fruits for the cold winter season.
  • on a hot, sunny day, make dried fruit by laying slices out on a try on the windowsill.
  • buy or make a folding fan. Buy a plain one and decorate it.
  • add accents of pastel yellow or grass green to your outfits for added energy. Or colours like soft blue or burnt orange.
  • try a Hama Girl co-ord.
  • fly a kite or make a windcatcher.
  • walk barefoot in the grass.
  • make a butterfly or bee feeder.
  • visit the botanical gardens and go for a leisurely walk; do a drawing of an inspiring piece of nature.
    • or visit the beach and collect shells.
  • make some origami stars and turn them into a garland or crown.
  • make a Summer reading list.
  • have a Picnic at Hanging Rock themed picnic or movie viewing.
  • go for an early morning walk and pack a picnic breakfast to eat in the park.
  • try a "Pink Lady" soda: mix either lemon or orange soft drink with a hint of raspberry flavouring and top off with Italian cream.
  • or make Chinese style iced milk tea.
  • make DIY moisturising products for dry Summer skin.
  • visit your local op-shops.
  • go to a park and blow bubbles! Or in the garden at home.
  • co-ordinate outfits with soft tulle or gauze instead of lace for a lighter look.
  • paint co-ordinates or other summer themes in watercolour.
  • good crafts for hot weather are sewing or embroidery; try making a zakka pouch or table mat. Fabric coasters are perfect for putting cold drinks on. A bigger project could be a light summer apron with embroidered edges.
  • make pressed flowers and use them in paper crafts.
  • make a hairpiece out of fresh flowers or use them to decorate a straw hat.
  • make your own ice cream. Experiment with different flavours. Gelati or sorbet are also good for a lighter option.

at the end of Summer

  • set up a table and chairs in the garden and have a special dinner at sunset.
  • clear out your pantry to prepare for the change of seasons. Try cooking something new.
  • make a Summer memento jar. Add bits of nature you have collected and other things to remind you of what you did this Summer.
