Each song I have listed, and the person (or people) I have dedicated the song to, it has a moment involving me and that person or people.
Song Title - Artist(s) (Person or People I dedicate the song to)
- See You Again - Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth (Ryan and Cathy)
- During this year
- After worship practice with the group (it didn't really take long), two of the members (those listed above) decided to have a mini jam session, so we chose this song. I started playing this song on the piano (because I knew the chords to this song), and the two of them sang and rapped. We had a fun time with it, a friend of ours found the lyrics to the song on the Internet and so the two of them sang along and I played on the piano.
- Viva La Vida - Coldplay (Jason)
- Grade 8
- I was in the music room just playing some random songs on the keyboard until Jason came into the music room randomly, and grabbed a guitar. He asked me for the chords on Viva La Vida, and so I told him the chords and how they are played (because he knew that I can play this by ear, and I have played this a lot of times), and so we started jamming (he asked me for the chords while we were about to perform for the Christmas/Winter recital at our school before, while I was playing this song in my free time). Him on the guitar, and me on piano and vocals. It was the only time he and I jammed but I still remembered it.
- One Shot - B.A.P (Michelle)
- Back in grade 10, if I remembered correctly
- She wanted me to get into B.A.P since it was one of her favourite groups (and because I finally got involved with K-pop), so she showed me this song. I ended up loving it, completely, because it was totally my thing. The epic violin orchestra in the background, Daehyun's and Youngjae's powerful vocals, Yongguk's deep voice, Jongup's dancing, Zelo's rapping and Himchan's epicness made me fall in love. Her older sister, who is also my best friend, didn't really like the song, or the music video, because it was graphic (blood was involved and there was shooting, which made it a 19+ video). But I love the plot, it was very interesting, compared to most music videos from K-pop groups. She finally got me into the group, although she had a few unsuccessful attempts when she showed me songs from girl groups.
- Call Me Baby - EXO (Julie)
- I was going to do To the Sky by Owl City, but I couldn't really figure out a backstory for it, because I liked the song immediately afer she showed me it.
- Just this year as well
- I showed her the song for Call Me Baby, and she ended up grooving to it, telling me that this was her jam. I showed her the music video for Call Me Baby, and she pointed to D.O, saying that he looks like bae material, so D.O became her bias (but now Luhan has taken over as her bias, with D.O being her second, you can never have just on bias when it comes to EXO). She was also used to me hearing that Chanyeol is closest to my ideal type, even though he's not my top bias (but he is actually second on my EXO bias list), so I guess she was curious about him and the rest of EXO. When I showed her a picture of Chanyeol, she told me that he looks like bae material (well, of course he is bae material, what are you talking about, the whole group is bae material). So, I made my own profiles of the EXO members and send it to her, and started sending her the whole discography of EXO, and now, she is becoming an EXO Stan...
- Mr. Taxi - Girls' Generation/SNSD (Vivian P.)
- Back in grade 8 or 9...
- She was trying to get me into K-pop, along with her and her sister so she played this song (even though it was in Japanese and not in Korean, but the views for the music video skyrocketed to like 100 million views now) and it made me cringe. The song was awfully cheesy for my liking, and because of that, she bothered me with that song, every time I came over to her house, or when we go somewhere together. But she eventually stopped, because she gave up on the fact that I would not like the song, nor like SNSD. Although thanks to her and her sister for forcing me into liking K-pop for three years, I ended up listening to K-pop.
- The A Team - Ed Sheeran (Phuong)
- Back in grade 8, if I remembered correctly...
- I have heard of Ed Sheeran at that time, but I think I have only heard of that one song of his. She is a huge fan of Ed Sheeran, so she got me into it, saying that it would be in my taste of music. I listened to that song, and I liked it, it has a nice guitar/piano duet there, and the acoustic feel is what I like. She wanted me to play that song on the piano (along with a few other songs to, for example, One Direction's I Want, while I was still getting into the group) So thanks to her, I actually got into Ed Sheeran. Another friend of mine touched me, and told me that I was indirectly touched by Ed Sheeran (she got to go see him at the concert in Toronto and she touched him! Lucky person!). So I have been indirectly touched by a celebrity!
- Do You Wanna Build a Snowman - Frozen (Vivian N.)
- Back in grade 10...during Christmas break
- She loves singing, a lot... She's part of the Glee Club at her school where they do a lot of singing and dancing. So, she started singing this song, while getting close to each of us, and being all touchy-feely with us (skinship...). It was like she was serenading with us! At that time, I was sick with a sore throat, so I told her not to get close to me, but I was laughing while my friends were involved in Vivian N's skinship (but let's be honest, they loved it, and now they got involved in skinship, especially Phuong).
- Sexy and I Know It - LMFAO (Landon, Emma, Kirsten)
- Back in grade 8 - grade 9
- Emma and Kirsten always bothered me with this song, because I hated it so much (I hate sexy concepts, and this being one of them, especially when they're shirtless and also pant-less, minus them having boxers that can clearly see the outline of their package, it's definitely not my cup of tea...). They even chased me around the graduation dance hall while the song was playing, and they were threatening that they would "grind" on me while the song is playing. When Landon found out that I hated this song, he even sang along with Emma and Kirsten, just to annoy me, like usual. He already knew the things that bothered me, and determined to annoy me even more, he is using that against me, and this is one of them!
- Same Mistakes - One Direction (Rida, Emma, Lauren)
- During Grade 8
- During this time, One Direction was a huge thing, and most of the girls were listening to it a lot. Rida is obsessed with them, so anything involved with One Direction is totally find for her. Emma wanted me to get into them, but I was getting a bit hesitant about them because I don't do boy bands (especially the old ones like N SYNC and New Kids on the Block or the Backstreet Boys), so she showed me this song. I listened to it after, and I thought that it was pretty good. So I told Emma about it, and she was quite delighted about it, she said she wanted me to play this song on the piano. When Lauren and Rida found out that I was slowly getting into One Direction, they made me learn the names of them, and finally picking a favourite member of the group. I chose Liam because I usually stan the vocalists in a group (but now it switched to Niall).
- Sherlock (Clue + Note) - SHINee (Phuong)
- Just this year (actually just a few days ago)
- I know I have already dedicated her with a song, but I couldn't help it because she's a very close friend of mine. When I was packing up the instruments when service was over, she pulled out her phone, and I saw Minho as her lock screen. I was like "Why does this person look awfully familiar?" and so I found out that it was actually Minho. So I asked her how she got into him and she said that she got into him was through watching a bunch of K-dramas with him acting (thanks to Vivian P., she got into watching K-dramas). She then told me that she was very into SHINee now, she finds Taemin really pretty (of course he's pretty, he even sang "Pretty Boy" with Kai from EXO, and Jonghyun actually composed it, plus I was legit envious of his hair in Lucifer and Sherlock, they look so much nicer than mine), Key is a diva, and Minho is now her bias, and as she calls it, her oppa. I told her that he is like 8 years older than her, and then she told me that he could wait another 2 years (but that would mean he could enlist in military service at this age). Well, I can kind of understand how she feels, because my ultimate bias is flipping 12 years older than me and he is going to be enlisting in the military service anytime soon.
- Skyfall (from the movie with the same name) - Adele (Cameron)
- During Music class back in grade 9.
- This is very similar to the time when Jason and I had a jam session during lunch time back in grade 8, if not, it's actually almost identical. When Cameron knew that I play the piano, he asked me to play Skyfall by Adele on the piano (because it's one of his favourite songs), which I have no problem doing, because it's one of my favourite Adele songs, and I totally respect Adele as a singer. Cameron was one of the drummers/percussionists in the class (the other being his older brother Callum) so before class started, he and I started to jam, with him on the drums and me on piano and vocals. It was rather fun to do, and also a few other students in the class were watching our little jam session together.
