  • Professor Dave
    • Basically what I consider 'introduction of an introduction' to the general public (youtube video)
  • Introduction to Geology
    • Friendly educational lectures for beginners (youtube videos I intend to download and upload elsewhere)
  • GeoGirl
    • Playlists of GeoGirl, very amazing and qualified. Travel across her content like there's no tomorrow (youtube videos)
  • GeologyHub what is geology?
    • Professional Geology questions and answers website, consistent introductory concepts (very text-y but there is a yt channel as well which I also recommend)
  • OpenGeology
    • Another great 'where to begin' website that opts for a general four main categories approach which is great (text with a few images)
  • Geology Science
    • Gathers information on many aspects of the Earth, general public (rich in text, video and image files)
  • Nick Zentner
    • Treasure recently found, unique professor, strongly recommend his channel (youtube channel)
  • MIT Lectures
    • Self-explanatory. Although not rich in content can be served as a quick standard guide to all those who teach Geology (light pdf files)
  • Britannica
    • Same boat here whereas broader concepts are presented for the sake of information (text heavy, video/image files)
  • How do we know what we know?
    • Quick explanation for those in hurry (text, few images)
  • Geology subreddit
    • Can be fun sometimes (of course heavily texted, lots of images and video files)
  • SEG Library
    • Supplies scientific materials to the geoscience community and the public through and definitely not introductory (text-heavy)
  • Nature
    • Multi-disciplinary journal, if not the best one out there, researches across the entire spectrum of the Earth Sciences (text mostly)
  • US centric Geologic Portal
    • Complex geologic and hazards information into the hands of everyone. If your country has one of these please message me and I'll be including on this list in no time (heavy data throughout, download data available)
  • Beautiful Mars
    • Images and posts from HiRISE, the high resolution camera onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO, NASA)
  • Dr. Rock
    • Geologist on tumblr who posts quality stuff who is also open to answering questions (lots of images)
  • The Rock Gangue
    • Don't even know where to begin with this one, so much content, also lovely store (tumblr as well)
  • Most extreme places to visit on Earth!
    • Mars is overrated (article with pictures)
  • Discord folks
    • Good amount of servers if you are into discord, good luck! (sorry not to suggest any of those particularly, not quite active on the platform myself)

mineralogy-focused

  • Updated list of IMA-approved minerals - sept. 2023
    • Does not redirect you to the pdf file directly
  • Mindat
    • Non-commercial interactive database covering minerals across the world (of course, will be full of image files)
  • Le Comptoir Géologique
    • More minerals from a company this time, only I prefer the dark background so I don't have to force it on beta. Also the way they catalog their products - not only minerals but gemstones, fossils and tumbled stones - is quite pleasant (expect beautiful imagery)
  • Vugna's Mineral Blog
    • Tumblr account that accepts requests of mineral pictures.
