Lightbulbs
- Size: E27 (standard) or E14 (smaller)
- W (Watts) is how much energy the bulb needs
- lm (Lumiere) is how bright it is / can be
- Shape doesn't matter, only visually
- Smart Light: works via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) and a phone app for example. Other than that, you don't have to do anything.

display & graphics:
- non-glare
- 1920x1080 = Full HD (FHD)
- graphic card (also important for gaming!)
performance:
- CPU (processor) = the "brain": the more powerful it is, the more powerful your device is. helps with running multiple programs.
- RAM (system memory) = the more RAM you have the better the performance (e.g. for gaming). multiply the clock speed by the number of cores.
- my current: 2x 8GB = 16GB
data storage:
- SSD
- my current one has 512 GB
etc:
- connections:
- at least 1 USB-C
- at least 2 USB
- HDMI if needed
- SD card slot if needed
- windows 10 at least
- keyboard: DE layout!!! (= qwertz)
- size: my current one is 15.6", 16:9
- battery: 10h would be good
- weight: <2kg is not heavy
keyboard:
- numblock yes or no
- german layout = qwertz
- ü,ö,ä,ß etc.
- make sure < > is on the left side
𝐓 𝐕 (geizhals filter)
own: mine ┊ anna's ┊ parents' ┊ manuel's
- all are LED
- size: make sure the width is fine, and pedestals are not too far on the sides (so that it can fit on a tv stand)
- my parents' tv is 43" (and 97cm width). nowadays there are almost no smaller ones than that.
- the OS (e.g. Android) doesn't matter if you have an Amazon Fire Stick. otherwise it might be important to know which apps you can install (e.g. to block ads on youtube) and how fast/smooth it is (Read reviews!)
- choose 4K UHD (3840x2160)
- anything Full HD (1920x1080) is outdated nowadays
- note: this makes the biggest difference if the content you watch is 4K (e.g. the most expensive netflix plan). however, even if it is not the tv will upscale the content and it will look slightly better.
- at least 3 HDMI connections (HDMI 2.0 does not matter)
- refresh rate: 50/60 vs 60/120. only makes a difference for gamers, so 50/60 is perfectly fine.
Panel & Backlight:
- Quantum Dot (LG calls it "QNED") gives better colors. but not many TVs have this. (irrelevant for OLED, because only the expensive new Samsung ones have OLED+Quantum Dot!)
- LCD TVs that are not IPS are probably VA
- IPS kann man nicht exkludieren bei Willhaben!! Also bei jedem schauen. Achtung, auch wenn es nicht dasteht kann es IPS sein (z.B. "NanoCell"), einfach googeln.
HDR: (= better colors/contrast)
- no HDR (okay if you don't need it)
- note: HDR only works if the content you watch is HDR. on netflix this means having the most expensive plan. most youtube videos are not HDR! streaming on totally legal websites is also not HDR.
- HDR10 (standard HDR)
- HDR10+ (as good as Dolby Vision, but only works if the content watched has this, and it's uncommon)
- Dolby Vision (more content (e.g. netflix) have this)
Backlight:
- Edge-lit (bad to okay)
- Direct-lit (better)
- Mini LED (subcategory of direct-lit, and better than that)
Dimming: (defines how dark "black" pixels are)
- No Dimming (worst)
- Local Dimming (few areas) (worse than nothing)
- Local Dimming (many areas) (slightly better than nothing)
- Full Array Local Dimming (good)
- OLED (perfect, but only in dark rooms)
- OLED screens always have completely dark black pixels and are therefore better than all of these. However, they can't get as bright as non-OLED screens, so they should only be used in a dark room.
- A danger with OLED is that things that are on the screen for 3+ hours at a time (e.g. a game's minimap, a channel's logo, etc.) get burned in. Nowadays this shouldn't happen a lot (in theory). There are also ways of minimizing it, and settings to prevent most of it.
Dark Images / Contrast:
- IPS (<1200:1 = bad) Don't buy IPS!
- VA (~4000:1 = medium)
- OLED (∞:1 = amazing)
Viewing Angles: (display from the side)
- VA (bad)
- IPS (good)
- OLED (best)
