pre-edit:
- drag in files to the left column of media pool to keep folder structure
- adding multiple clips to timeline at once: just select all and drag in. make sure not to select other file types e.g. timelines, it won't work
- double-click clip to open it in source window (show waveform in source clip), make makers (M, M again to give it a name), they will show in a dropdown list in the media pool (list view only, not thumbnail view). these can be put into the timeline
- syncing video and audio files: select video and audio in media pool, rightclick -> auto sync audio (use waveform) -> then dragging the video in will have the new audio
edit:
- freeze frame: put playhead where you want the freeze frame to start, in the inspector: video -> speed change -> snowflake icon
- menu: edit -> delete gaps
- With the "del" key you affect the whole timeline while the "backspace" key only interests the selected elements.
- delete silences: Select your clip in the timeline, go to Clip > Audio Operations > Ripple Delete Silence, adjust the threshold settings to define silence, and click "Remove" to automatically cut gaps
image:
- transform visually: click transform button on the bottom left of the viewer (square icon)
text:
- for typing animation: use "text+", set keyframes for "Write On": at beginning of clip add a keyframe and move right node all the way to the left, at end of clip (or earlier) add a keyframe and move right node all the way to the right again
audio:
- top right button 'mixer', then next to audio levels
- "DYN" button to add dynamics ("Make Up" slider up to raise lows, "Compressor" Threshold and Ratio up to lower highs)
- "EQ" button to open equalizer. Play audio and click and drag points you want quieter (down) or louder (up)
- batch fade: (on fairlight page)
- menu 'Fairlight' -> Batch Fade Settings -> activate all three (fade in, crossfade, fade out) (length ~3 frames, crossfade 2 frames equal power) -> apply -> select all audio clips you want to apply this on -> menu 'Fairlight' -> Apply Batch Fades
performance: +
- right-click clip: "render in place"
- menu "Playback"
- render cache: smart
- timeline playback resolution: quarter
- using proxies: right-click clip in resource panel -> "Generate proxy media"
- go to Project Settings via the File menu. Under the Master Settings tab, scroll to the Optimized Media and Render Cache section, where you can select the proxy media resolution and format
- note: optimized media is similar but not a readable file format
troubleshooting:
- "media offline": on "cut" page(!) right-click the imported media and select "relink selected clips"
export:
- exporting: rocket page -> add file name and location -> mp4 format H.265 -> Add to Render Queue -> (In Render Queue:) Render All
