- Dr Pepper was invented in Waco in 1885. The Dublin Dr Pepper, 85 miles west of Waco, still uses pure imperial cane sugar in its product.
- The Houston Oilers were a beloved professional American football team that played in the city from 1960 to 1996, but rebranded to the Tennessee Titans.
- The modern-day banana (Cavendish bananas) are not the same bananas from the 50's (the Gros-michel banana). The Gros-michel banana was wiped out by a banana disease in Panama.
- There is a city named "Truth or Consequences" in New Mexico. In March 1950, Ralph Edwards, host of the incredibly popular NBC quiz show Truth or Consequences, announced he would broadcast his 10th-anniversary episode from the first town in the U.S. that agreed to rename itself after his program. The residents of the then named town of Hot Springs held a special election on March 31, 1950. The citizens voted overwhelmingly (1,294 to 295) to change the town's name to Truth or Consequences.
